A Poker Lesson

A participant in a poker game will find themselves, more or less, in a position where it seems that they cannot make even a single wrong move. It would also seem that their hand is the best among the rest of the competitors. This type of move is what one calls a rush.

Depending on which people you ask, you will get varying answers on what move you should make when you are in a "rush". The most important thing is that you should not take away your focus from a game that you are winning.

If you are getting most of the money in the cash pot, then you must think that your rivals are losing by default. This is a very good chance to take advantage of the situation, and you're supposed to have a "psychological edge" over other players. For the meantime, you should just continue playing until the "rush" happens. The real question in this situation is when the player is in a middle of a rush, should they change the way they play? A lot of poker players, even professionals, firmly believe that you should just continue your own style play.

But there is one major stumbling block in this plan. For example, like in a coin flip, what is your assurance that the last flip out of nine successful "head" flips, will still be the same? It only means that you should play with the same attitude that you have if you have not been that successful in the last few hands. If your opponents in the game think that you are in the midst of a "rush", you can use that notion to your advantage, and make them firmly believe that you have the upper hand on every play. You will also be able to be in a good position to project an invincible image that will give you the opportunity to bluff your way through at the table without much trouble.

The same thing could also be done to you when you experience a run of bad hands. When your rivals think that you have a bad hand, they will be more likely to target you, thinking that you will continue to have a bad hand, and could bully you endlessly. This will make life difficult for you to play the best you can, because you do not have your dominant image now, and your bluffs do not work as well as before. When this happens, you have to immediately adjust your strategy. Play few hands until you get a good hand, or you could play a little cautiously until the situation improves.
